Fr. Edward Jackman, Longtime CCHA Secretary-General, Dies at Age 81

It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the death of our dear friend and loved one, Edward John Rowell Jackman.

He died peacefully at his home this morning in Kleinburg, Ont., with his friends Martha Jackson and Valerie Burke who were with him during the night and at the time of his death.

He was humbled by the number of sincere and loving comments he received about his generosity to each of you and to so many organizations. He said to me several times, “I can’t believe I did all this!” I reminded him that this is why so many people loved him and wished him well.

I can assure you that despite the fact that he was uncomfortable with not being able to breathe easily, he was not in pain. He spent his last evening as he always did, saying the rosary and watching Steve Paikin. Quite a combination, I know, but that was the Father Jackman or Edward that we all knew and loved.
