It wasn’t just the buds bursting in June!!  CCHA Member Robert Dennis became President of the CCHA at the May 2014 AGM; he achieved his doctorate in June and then Robert and his wife Julia welcomed a daughter to their family in June. The University of Prince Edward Island appointed Robert Dennis Professor of Religious Studies and St. Dunstan’s University Visiting Scholar of Catholic Studies in August. Congratulations Robert!!

Edward MacDonald, President General of the CCHA, had a busy year at the University of Prince Edward Island as the historian for the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference celebrations. The Heritage Canada Trust has honoured Edward MacDonald with the Lieutenant Governor’s Award in recognition of his contributions to island history.

Peter Baltutis of St. Mary’s University Calgary, new Vice-President of the CCHA, has written a chapter entitled, “Faith that Does Justice: Jesuit Social Apostolate in English Canada, 1842–2014,” for the upcoming History of the Jesuits in English Canada, Builders of a Nation, edited by Jacques Monet. Novalis will publish it in 2014.

Rosa Bruno-Jofre of Queens University and Heidi MacDonald of the University of Lethbridge presented November 14, 2014 in Rome at the Collolquium Men and Women Religious and Vatican II. Rosa Bruno-Jofre spoke on “Reading the lived experience of Vatican II: threading words and images, contrasting with the past, and grasping the spirit of the times: The Oblate Sisters and the Sisters of Our Lady of Missions in Canada.” Heidi MacDonald spoke on “The Personal is Political: How three congregations of women religious in Atlantic Canada responded to the Vatican II process of renewal.

Classen, photographer have compiled Building the Church, Living the Gospel, a beautiful book on the history of the 99 Churches of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon. Margaret Sanche also reports on the celebration of the closing of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon mission in Brazil and the gathering of archival records.

At the Canadian History of Education Conference in Saskatoon in October CCHA members Jacqueline Gresko Rosa Bruno-Jofre, and Elizabeth Smyth did presentations on their research on women religious as educators.

On the West Coast the big news this summer was the appointment of former CCHA President and previous Historical Studies, Editor Peter Meehan as Principal of Saint Mark’s College and President of Corpus Christi College at the University of British Columbia. Jacqueline Gresko, Patricia Roy and Richard Lebrun attended Peter Meehan’s installation.

West Coast anniversaries during 2015 include the 150th anniversary of the Sisters of St. Ann’s Providence Farm near Duncan BC in June and the 75th anniversary of the Benedictine Westminster Abbey at Mission, BC in September 2014.

CCHA member Theresa Vogel, former executive director St. Ann’s Academy Historic Site Victoria, is now manager of archives for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Victoria; and Jennifer Sargent is the new archivist for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vancouver.

Moving back to the east coast, Peter Ludlow of the Holy Cross Trust in Nova Scotia,  and our new CCHA Member at Large, has just set up a Twitter account for the CCHA.
